I found this 535i by campus. Sadly I didn’t have my polarizer to get rid of the reflections but I still liked how it came out. I’m really liking how this 55mm works for car photography! I’m thinking about offering car photoshoots to the people at the local cars and coffee and car shows for something cheap, like $30 which includes like a free 8X10 and the JPEGS. What do yall think?

Polarizers are a requirement for car photography as far as I’m concerned.

50mm is a good range. Remember the 2/3 rule - stand back more.

I have two pictures somwhere from last year’s Detroit Auto show taken with the polarizer 90 degrees different between them (otherwise exactly the same), it’s amazing how much better it looks.

most times yes but sometimes you don’t need it

I know, however there was another car just out of frame so I was forced to work with the framing. As a result, I tried to use the rule of thirds on the Grill and lights.

Maybe. By the way, did you ever get the 55 for your A7? It’s awesome!

I had it for a while last year, through my old job. Had to leave the lens when I left the job. Right now what I’ve got is a crappy Sony APS-C 16mm wide angle, rarely use that but it’s tiny so nice for walking around with. Then the kit 28-70 f/3.5 which is just good to have, works for video with the stabilized lens. I’ve gotten into manual lenses, recently collected a vintage Canon 300mm f/4 prime lens from CL, its challenging but really rewarding, produces very interesting images. Then just a couple weeks ago I found a 50mm f/0.95 also fully manual, and that’s been a ton of fun to mess with.

also, I’d bring up the highlights a bit and a little less vignette, got a real dark feel to it

What adapter are you using to get the old Canon glass on the e-mount? Is it worth going with one of the more expensive options to get AF working on the film lenses or should I just grab one of the cheap (~$50) ones and stick to full manual? Alternatively I could also go for a speed booster adapter ($150+) which could be useful on a crop sensor like my NEX-5R.
Also, how do you like the 16mm for image quality? I’ve been meaning to pick one up as a carry around lens.

I literally have no idea what’s on the 300. The only reason I bought it was because it was already adapted for e-mount. I haven’t personally used any of the AF adapters, but I’ve heard they’re mostly garbage. Using focus peaking and setting a hot button to magnify have worked fine. Obviously moving objects are much tougher to capture, but for the price, it’s well worth it to me.
The 16mm is noticeably lower quality than the full frame lenses, but it does the job. Since it’s quite a wide angle, it doesn't as much matter to have the sharpness that I get in the other lenses.

I was trying to give it a grungy look since it was in front of some rougher buildings. It was also very cloudy when I took this so I tried to just embrace the darkness. Do you still think I should lighten it up?

Eh I mean it's your creative vision. Generally I aim to keep the car pretty bright, if anything using a radial filter in Lightroom to darken the background.

If you want to post the original I’d be happy to show you what I'd do to it.
